Urban boudoir, part II

Using your surroundings
August 13, 2007
One of my boudoir clients last week told me she wanted to try some experimental looks. That, of course, got my wheels turning (I love a good challenge!) and I decided to take it outside. The area around my studio has a very urban feel to it. The neighborhood is full of old converted factories, punchy greens and yellows, and tons of beautiful reflected light. I’m like a kid in a photo candy store out there! The area would be perfect for a trash the dress session…
Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot. Enjoy!

And now for a few words about boudoir day nerves
August 11, 2007
They go away!!! I swear they do. The top two things I hear from my clients when they get to my studio are: 1. I am SOOO nervous and 2. I had to sneak all this stuff out of my house!
So, as for nerves. I haven’t had a client yet who hasn’t relaxed either due to the champagne or me being my goofy self or just letting go. The photos below are a perfect example. If you can believe it, this knockout of a woman started very nervous, but by the end she was all over that photo shoot like America’s Next Top Model (her model faces were better than I’ve seen on the show).
Crying at weddings
August 4, 2007
A few weeks ago I went to Chicago with my parents to attend my step cousin Candace’s wedding (not to shoot it, just as a guest). Now, it’s not uncommon for me to cry at weddings (or at a good heartfelt commercial for that matter), but the emotion I felt watching her getting married was overwhelming. This wedding, and the attendance of my mom, dad, and myself, had special meaning for all.
Several years ago my Aunt Caryl – Candace’s step mom – passed away from breast cancer. Caryl’s strong, dynamic personality, and unconditional love left an imprint on the hearts of all who knew her. She ran marathon’s, climbed mountains, traveled, and was such an important part of our family. It’s days like Candace’s wedding that remind me how much I love her and miss her ability to always point me in the right direction.
Any how, this trip and wedding were very special to me and I wanted to share.
