Family Portrait
December 27, 2007
I tasked myself with taking a frameable Robotti family portrait this Christmas, knowing it would be a difficult. My family has been my unwilling photographic subject for several years now. They will tell you there is no place safe in our house from me and my camera. It’s true – I’m always documenting. So, when they see me coming, they do everything in their power to ruin the photo, be it stick out their tongues, run away, or block my lens. Yes, they’re adults. My dog has even begun to follow their example (see below).
I was tempted to just post the first photo, but it’s not an accurate representation of my family. The photos to follow show the Robotti family in their element – clowning around. Some of you may think we’re a little weird… and that’s probably true… but we have a blast together. Others of you will relate because your family is just the same. They’re not the traditional family photos, but I’ve already ordered enlargements.
New place, new boudoir
December 23, 2007
I’ve moved into a new place in Arlington, part of which I’m using for boudoir photos. It’ll be a cozy spot customized for boudoir, providing a comfortable place for my clients to strut their stuff. I had a volunteer to practice on this past weekend (you may recognize her from photos I’ve posted in the past), so I could learn the light in the space. To all future clients – one of the rooms is a sexy shade of red, and we found that red and black outfits look great in this room. Here are a few shots.

Good luck, Thushan
December 22, 2007
Last night I went to my friend Thushan’s farewell party. He’s about to embark on the trip many people want to take, but never get around to doing: he’s traveling the world. Lucky for the rest of us, beginning January 1 he’s documenting his trip in photos and videos, which he will post on a blog. It’ll be fascinating to follow him during the next eight months. I’ll post more about his travels soon. Here’s where he’ll go:
Good luck, Thushan. You’ll be missed!
Hadley + John, Astor’s Beechwood, Newport
December 16, 2007
Picture this: outdoor engagement photos yesterday, in 25 degree weather. Hadley and John did the impossible: they made below freezing weather look warm and fun.
We started at Astor’s Beechwood, where their wedding will be held. Then we headed downtown and finally to the ice rink. Newport is one of my favorite spots – it has such a unique look to it for photos, not to mention the great shopping. The next time I photograph them it will at their wedding, to be held on a warm summer night!
I had a lot of good photos to choose from, so I posted a bunch. Enjoy!
Merrill Lynch Holiday Party
December 16, 2007
I had the pleasure of photographing the annual Merrill Lynch holiday party. They really know how to throw a party for kids. Santa was there, along with a host of other characters. There were magicians, pitchers of Shirley Temples, live animals, sketch artists, cotton candy, and even presents for everyone.

Boudoir
December 16, 2007
Here are a few outtakes from a boudoir shoot I did awhile back. They include a pose that took both my assistant and I to help her maneuver into. I’ll let you guess which one. This client had a really fun nature to her, which came across beautifully in her photos. I loved the light in the studio that day. I swear you can’t recreate natural light like this.
Meg & Mike
December 16, 2007
Now that I’m all settled into my new place, I can finally catch up on my wedding posts. The first is a wedding reception I shot for my friends Meg and Mike. They got married on a beautiful, tropical island and had a reception for their extended family when they returned. Meg had one of the most beautiful cakes and bouquet I’ve ever seen… I love fall colors!
